Hi-Fi Productions, LLC is dedicated to creating and producing provocative and entertaining content for various media.

Our collective experience and skill sets combine for effective marketing and engaging Hi Def added content for feature films and TV series. 

 

PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/COMPOSER/CEO

Michael Mattioli continues to expand his career and craft in music and filmmaking with Hi-Fi Productions, LLC.

Michael produced and directed the behind the scenes extra content featurettes for the Blu-ray and standard DVD releases of the feature film, Appaloosa, for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, 2007-2008.  Final segments (approximately 30 minute TRT) were released January 13, 2009. View samples at http://www.hi-fiproductions.com/clients.html

Michael co-created the Building Green TV series distributed on PBS stations around the country, expanding his experience as an independent producer/director.  From the fall of 2001 to the fall of 2006, this project realized a life long dream and passion for promoting sustainable living, providing daily hands-on filmmaking opportunities and other entreprenuereal challenges throughout the 5+ year commitment to help create this television series.  Michael produced and co-directed, and shot and edited much of the 13 episodes - the first 6 of which were released in October 2006.  Samples available at http://www.hi-fiproductions.com/green.html  

As co-creator of the series, he also came up with the segment titles, jingles, & their animated graphics which defined the format of the episodes; he wrote, performed, and recorded the music for the shows; handled the production & post-production sound duties, while guiding and delivering Building Green to a successful broadcast launch.  He was instrumental in the initial website design, construction and development, which averaged approximately 10,000 hits per day for the 2 months prior to releasing the series.

In 1996, Michael produced the popular 6 part, 6 hour Hands on Drumming, djembe drumming instructional series of videos and DVDs, currently published by Mel Bay, and distributed by Guitar Center, Amazon, and other major outlets. Michael independently produced the popular Hands on Drumming series with executive producer Paolo Mattioli, with whom he has also recorded and performed music.

 

COMPOSER/MUSIC PRODUCER

Michael has scored and produced music for picture since 1989 beginning with scores for the short films Only Natural and An Urban Tragedy featured and honored that year at numerous film festivals across the country - including AFI in Los Angeles, New Films New Directors in New York, and the Chicago International Film Festival. His first feature film score was in 1996, for Kiss and Tell, starring Heather Graham, Rose McGowan, Peter Greene and Jill Hennessy.  He has composed and produced music for dozens of national TV commercials for clients like UPS, Payday, Nissan, Toyota, and TV shows like 7th Heaven, Merv Griffins' Crosswords, and Soul Food..

MUSICIAN

Michael began studying music and playing musical instruments at the age of eight: voice, saxophones, guitars, organ, flutes, continuing on to synthesizers, various Latin and African percussion, composition, and arranging.  Around 1984, he began programming synthesizers and drum machines, using computers and multi-track recorders, and co-producing recordings with members of his popular band Newspeak.   In 1989, he played saxophone on Martika, for CBS Records, which achieved gold record status. 

He has subsequently performed as a session musician and programmer on numerous records and film soundtracks throughout his career, with the likes of Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, (Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros) Rob Wasserman, Mike Watt, (Firehose, The Minutemen) Bill Payne, (Little Feat) Peter Frampton, Greg Kurstin, (Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ben Harper) jazz guitar great George Van Eps, and Maxi Priest, among many others.  Comfortable playing in most musical styles, Michael is an excellent sight-reader, improviser, and a dynamic soloist and live performer who has performed in concert hall and club venues in Southern California and across the country with bands like Alan Parsons Project, Banyan, Somos Son, Maggie's Farm and Newspeak

MM MUSIC & SOUND DESIGN

Michael Mattioli Music and Sound Design began with freelance music and sound work, primarily for Caudill and Associates; (1989-1993) composing music, recording sound on location, and doing post production sound mixing for the Orange County production company’s projects.  Next opportunity was at LA Post, a video post-production facility in Santa Monica, (now West Post Digital) to do scoring, sweetening, sound editorial and sound design work on various commercial, TV and film projects. (1993-1997)

Trained briefly at Todd AO Sound at that time, expanding skill set to include sound editing, and immediately found work as a sound editor and sound supervisor on several independent feature films, including Bar Girls in 1994 and Love and Happiness in 1995. 

Then moved company to The Complex Studios in West LA (1997-2001)   Nominated for a Golden Reel award for ADR recording for HBO’s The Hunchback, (1997) and also worked as a voiceover engineer on various episodes of The Simpson’s for Fox Television.  He also mixed multiple feature film trailers for Warner Home Video during this time, recording voiceover artists like Don LaFontaine in the process.  He has extensive experience with SSL, GML, Pro Tools and other hardware and software systems.

MUSIC TEACHER

From 1989-2001, developed and chaired the Electronic Music Program at the Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, California, where teaching classes of his own curriculum, grades 7-12. Teaching music and technology part time in a synthesizer lab provided opportunities: to work with fresh music minds, to stay current with technology and gear, and to explore ways to improve how music can be made and taught to students of all levels, focusing on the creative aspects of making music with the available equipment: synthesizers, sequencers, computers, software, microphones, multi-track recorders, mixers, and effects devices. 

He worked with electronic music legend, Morton Subotnick of Cal Arts to help develop and test his Canvas music software for kids.    

CO-PRODUCER/VIDEOGRAPHER/EDITOR

Educated at Brooks Institute of Photography, Brent Sumner started as an editor in the reality and documentary realm.  

Early credits include ABC’s The Bachelor, WB, Weber Stanwick, CNBC, and The Living Edge.  

He moved on to a documentary/EPK series which took him to many sets around the world to interview the likes of Ben Kingsley,

Janet Leigh, and Michael Caine to name a few.  Brent shot and edited a documentary entitled Citizen McCaw, Blue Belle, a pilot for HBO entitled Stardust, and has received a Gold medal at the International Film Awards for both cinematography and editing of a documentary featuring Robert Duvall.  Brent shot and helped edit the ABQ Studios piece. 

CO-PRODUCER/VIDEOGRAPHER/EDITOR

Christopher Bell graduated from the University of Southern California in 1989 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. 

After graduating, he traveled throughout Southern California photographing its most unique and beautiful properties as a location manager for the film and television industry.  In 1994 he obtained his SCUBA Instructor's Certification and joined Passage Productions to produce live, interactive, underwater video broadcasts.  In 1997 he started Third Eye Productions, a video production company specializing in documentaries.  In 2000 he co-produced and edited Impressions in Time, an Emmy-award winning documentary onthe history of Santa Barbara.  For the past four years, he has been producer and editor for Inside Santa Barbara, an award-winning news magazine program.  Chris also co-produced, edited, and was the primary videographer, for the Building Green TV series, from

2002-2006, and helped out with additional editing on the Appaloosa added content segments.

CONSULTING PRODUCER

Ginger Sledge has been working in feature film production for 24 years in New York, California, Texas, Colorado, Hawaii,

and Vancouver, B.C.  She has produced notable films such as Waiting for Guffman, Miss Congeniality, and Mickey Blue Eyes.

Most recently, Ginger helped produce Appaloosa, The Great Buck Howard, Lords of Dogtown, and Sideways. 

Working for eight years in New York City, Ms. Sledge was a location manager on movies such as Ghostbusters II, Bronx Tale, Night and the City, The Super, and North.  Her episodic TV experience includes Ed Zwick's Dream Street, and Dick Wolf's Help.

She was a 2006 Environmental Media Association Green Seal Award recipient for her work on The Great Buck Howard.

Hi-Fi is extremely honored, grateful and fortunate to have her support on so many different levels.
